And Then There Was No Electricity!
April 7 2002 at 12:25 PM
John

Recently my house was struck by lightning and without power for 6 days. With my wife and I getting tired of bouncing back and forth from hotels, we decided to spend a couple of nights in the house with kerosene heaters and lamps. My wife snuggled up with some books and I remembered my Zoom PS-02 can run off of batteries so I plugged in my Strat and headphones and played away to what I had stored in it until the batteries ran out ... I was glad I hadn’t left it and power adapter plugged in … it is an amazing little unit.

Warning!April 8 2002, 1:23 AM

I lost all my audio tracks because i continued to play my PS-02 while the battery indicator was on. I would suggest never using the batteries if you have important tracks on your unit. You need a minimum of 2 data cards in case you get a card error.

Rechargable batteries anyone?April 8 2002, 12:18 PM

Anyone using rechargable batteries with their PS-02? If so, what brand and how much life do you get from them?

I use Uniross rechargeables.
As long as you get NI-MH and not NI-CADS they should be fine.
NI-CADS seem to hold their charge longer if unused but NI-MH are more reliable and thats important when writing to smartmedia.

The UniRoss batteries you mentioned, are they 1.2 volt or 1.5 volt?

Do you know of an equivalent in the US?

I've tried Energizer ACCU Rechargeable, but they're only 1.2 volts and won't even start the unit.

I Was Using RechargeablesApril 8 2002, 9:34 PM

I've got Radio Shack 1.2v 300ma Ni-Cad's. I was told that their discharge curve better reflects a normal AAA battery discharge curve so the low battery indicator will behave much like if you were running regular batteries. Have not had any problems but I do shut down when I get the low battery indicator. I also set the Back Lite display to turn off when running on batteries to conserve battery life. I've run it down several times to the battery indicator with no problems. I can't just be lucky on this ... look what happened to my house.

The Uniross are 1.2volt and have always worked fine for me, although i also turn the backlight off and try to keep them fully charged.

Rechargable batteriesApril 20 2002, 12:12 PM

I picked up some Radio Shack Ni-MH AAA's on sale for $13.50 (normally $17.50) and a charger for $13. I've been using them for several days w/o any problems yet.

Even though the initial cash outlay is significantly higher than w/ alkaline batteries, you'll recover your cost in 30-40 hours of use w/ the PS-02.

I use rechargable alcaline batteries (Alcava).
They provide 1.5 V and work very fine with the PS02.
