Most of the patterns seem to be in 4/4 time, there's only 1 pattern (jazzwaltz) which is in three time...Can the existing patterns in 4/4 be switched to 3/4 or are all my tunes goint to have to be in 4/4 if I want to use the drums and bass?

Its true most are in 4/4.
But the PS02 is able to deal with 2/4..8/4.
Use the PS02PatterEditor to modify the existing or to build your own pattern:
www.soundside.de
or
check the Pattern build by other users:

So are you saying I'd be able to build my own 3/4 patterns with your editor thingy? If so, how do I get them from the editor to my PS02?

To transfer anything between PS02 and PC you need a SmardMedia Card Reader/Writer.

Then load a songfile (*.pts) in the PS02PatternEditor change it as you like, listen the result with your soundcard and store it back to the PS02.
