Guitar tuner and mic using AC adaptor
March 8 2002 at 9:31 AM

Does anyone else's PS-02 behave a little strange when using the AC adaptor and then trying to use the guitar tuner with the built-in mic??? It keeps show G or G#, when nothing is playing!! When you take the AC adaptor out and use batteries it's fine.

I'd really appreciate it if someone else could take the time to try this, if nobody else's does this perhaps I should get a new one under warranty just in case things are not as they should be.

For anyone who doesn't know how to get to the guitar tuner and use the built in mic with it, - go to effect, press bypass button then press the mic button.

Thanks in anticipation.

Peter

you should see this as a blessing! it is the sound of the earth!

ermmmm... seriously. it probably earthing problems that all domestic power suffers. its the same as the buzz you get when the amp is too loud.

not too sure of the best way round it but you could try...

1. completly rewiring your house to industrial standard!

2. run a wire from your teeth to a copper stake driven in to the ground outside (this actually DOES work!)

3. stick to the batteries when tuning.

4. send me a check for twenty pounds and ill think about some more....

Thanks for that - does it do it on yours though?March 8 2002, 2:34 PM

I appreciate you replying, I thought it'd be buzz from the AC adaptor, perhaps it's a British thing? Are we the only country that has 3 pin plugs??

Just wondering if using the Ac adaptor would lead to an increase in noise when recording?? Have you noticed this?? I've not done much, especially not to a high quality, so when I do I would want to get the best, least noisy poss.

Cheers again,

Peter

yeah, it happens to mine sometimes. I tend to just tune one string then tune the rest off that, so it doesn't bother me.

the extra pin on our plugs will save your life one day (well, probably) ans shouldn't have to much effect. Its the actual audio signal reacting against a kind of static that gets held in metal that makes the noise and is not regular electricity.

ive had a few more ideas.

1. it might be worth earth plating (like the tin foil trick for guitars!) your ps-02 but be ULTRA carefull. this will nullify your warranty and could short out the little box if not don't exactly right..... in fact, its not worth the risk!

2. make sure your audio leads are seperated from your power leads. power leads should be kept away from everything!

3. try different power sockets around the house. some will be earthed better than others.
