Is my brand new PS-02 BROKEN ?

I was very excited to get it, But when I turned it on (with the demo card), it didn't seem to be working properly.

The main demo song is #2 instead of #1.

I followed the instructions for choosing a different demo and recording yourself for the first time, but there were no other demos to choose from, just a list of effects.

It seems impossible to select anything with the up/down arrow keys. In each mode, the display always blinks back to almost a default setting (or the 1st thing it displayed). Because of this, In song (or audio) mode the only song you can choose is the A(whatever) Brothers demo, though the manual references others.

When I tried a new 64mb card I just got a CDRERR error.

I first tried batteries but got a low power warning, so I used the wallwart. The brothers demo plays fine and the faders work, it just seems like the menu's didn't load correctly or something? I'm not missing anything obvious am I? Thanks...Brandt.

first of all - take a break and look at the manual again!
the demo is named 02 - dont know why it just is.
the up and down arrows dont control the menus -
they switch between different effects, so you can do this when in a different menu such as record or play.
to switch songs use the round four way selector at top left.(you need to have the song led lit by pressing left or right, then up/down to switch songs)
there is only one demo, the others are pre programmed backing examples.
have a play and then read the manual again.
then have another play and re read the bits you dont understand.
if you follow the 'create your first song' example carefully you will get it quickly.
keep an eye on this forum - it helps a lot!
good luck.

ps you need to format the smartmedia card on the ps02 first - its in the manual!

first thing check that the card is clean
(manual page 78)...
this does sound wrong though,i had to send my ps02 back and exchange it for a new one,it just packed up one day
it would play for a bit and then diplay..ERROR..
it's rare but there are iffy ps02's out there....
it sounds as if the original smart card is corrupted
was your 64 meg card formatted, did it ever work?
if you are not happy with it,take it back rightaway

you should be able to select other beats to play along with, when you press the up/down arrows, and it should NOT return to the last effect selected

I think it isFebruary 21 2002, 10:44 AM

I can't follow the directions for recording a new song, because it won't allow me to select anything! There is no way to change any selection and it does not respond as the manual says it should.

I'm taking it back to mars today...I think they had two...I'll just exchange it.

thanks for your input....Brandt

Maybe notFebruary 21 2002, 12:38 PM

O.k. I have successfully recorded over a demo background. I swear it wasn't letting me do this last night, but it was probably user error - it was late.

I don't think the manual is very clear. I was skipping the second quick guide step (using effects), because I didn't know it was part of a sequential proccess (and I didn't want effects). I wouldn't have done that if they had just numbered all the quick guide steps consectutively, (eg: 1-13) instead of starting each quick guide page with step number 1.

Anyway...looks like it might be o.k. I'll try formatting my new card later. Thanks!

The Manual WorksFebruary 21 2002, 10:12 PM

You are correct in your assessment of the layout of the manual, however, if you follow it, it does work. "When in doubt, read the manual".

Now it erased my song !February 21 2002, 11:18 PM

Boy this is turning into a saga!

I spent an hour recording a tune with bass, two guitars, and three vocal tracks. It was song 100. I layed down another idea on song 99.

After that, I was just playing the songs over my speakers: song 100 then song 99 then song 100 then 99.

Then, when I went back to 100, my song was gone!

It set the minutes back to 100, it's like it was never there! There was no smartmedia or power problem or anything like that. I was staring at the PS-02 the entire time. Anyone else ever had this problem?
