file transfers etc.
February 18 2002 at 6:53 PM

I have had the a problem regarding moving files back to the PS02 as another writer cited. If I just drag and drop the files Back on to the smart media card via explorer, the PS 02 does not see them. The question is what does Card Manager do to the files to make them visible to the PS02? It appears that all the .sys files were on the card after the drag and drop.

I have also noticed that the documentation, if you call it that, for both Card Manager, and the PS02 mention a file,, recorder.sys that is part of the system files that must reside on the target drive. Well, that file is not to be found on my factory setup card or the new operating system I just downloaded. What is recorder.sys.? The operation manual calls it an audio tracks file??

Which Files are being transferred?February 18 2002, 7:37 PM

Dave … maybe I’m misunderstanding your problem but you don’t need CardManager to move files from the SmartMedia card to your computer … you only need a card reader. CardManager can take the files that have been transferred and can convert them to WAV and SMF files but these should not be dragged back onto the SmartMedia card for the PS-02. These files are intended most likely for additional processing with mixing software.

On the other issue of the Recorder.sys file … are you sure that it has not been hidden by a file attribute or some other folder viewing option in explorer?

Dragging and dropping files to the card puts them on the card.  As long as you can see a file on the card in Windows Explorer, it's there, and as long as the file has the correct name and has not been corrupted, the PS-02 will "see" it.  There is nothing special you need to do.

In Control Panel go to Folder Options, click on the View tab, and under Hidden files and folders make sure you select "Show hidden files and folders".  Uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types".  See if that helps.

Which files being transferedFebruary 19 2002, 11:19 AM

The files that I am moving are the audio files. I was trying to drag and drop them from my hard drive, via a card reader, via explorer. I also was trying not to use Card Manager, because the program and documentation leave a lot to the imagination of the user. I read a post on another site where a user was just dragging and dropping files back and forth via explorer , I tried it and the files showed themselves on the PS02 but would not play???

I will have to look at my viewing options when I get to my other computer this evening, I can see all of the files on the PS02 back directory except the recorder.sys file. I have even downloaded an operating system update and I could not see the recorder.sys file in the download either.

Thanks,
Dave Brown

Audio Files Don't PlayFebruary 19 2002, 12:09 PM

Dave … even though you technically should be able to cut and paste or copy *.AUD files to a SmartMedia card I don’t think they will work properly and might not show up in the PS-02 unless the Songs.pts file has the appropriate entries for those songs. You can read more on this near the end of the forum in a post by Zurindio “Expanding the PS-O2 with more Patterns, Songs and Effect Patchs”. I think the post was July 27. 2001. I don’t know about others but when I transfer the contents of the SmartMedia card to my computer I download all the files and keep each download in a separate folder. I don’t mix and match.

I have found the best way to transfer just one song back to your ps02 is to drag the audio files AND the songs.pts and sounds.syn that were on the card when you downloaded to pc.
If you store these files in a seperate folder for each song you can easily load them back to your ps02.
(you may need to have the effects saved if you intend to re record part of the song again)
