"Armin, Question about Building Bass Patterns in PS02PatternEditor" February 18 2002 at 12:47 PM | John

| Thank you … Amazing software you’ve developed … just ordered and received it over the weekend but I have a question about building bass patterns. In an off-line note to you before buying I previously mentioned that I only play by ear and so this may be part of my problem … not knowing music theory.
I’m working on a bass pattern. The song has just three chords E, A and B. When I export the Song.pts file from PS-02 and read it into the PS02PatternEditor and load the pattern of interest, the bass notes show up as Bass-C and Bass-G. To me this doesn’t make any sense. If I reprogram them to the key of E ... when I import them back into the PS-02 they are shifted up and not in the key of E. I know this is probably my lack of understanding of how it is supposed to work because if I leave the notes in the Bass-C/Bass-G rows, but just modify the timing everything seems to work out just fine. If you could provide some theory I would appreciate it.

There are different solutions:
ALL Basspattern of the PS02 are stored in the Key 'C' and transposed by the chord selection in the song.
Solution A (build them like the original ones. I prefer this solution)
1. Build your Pattern in C
e.g. if you like to get E-A-H
create C-F-G
2. Create a song in the PS02. Use the chord 'E' 'NON'
Solution B
1. Build your Pattern in E
e.g. if you like to get E-A-H
create E-A-H
2. Create a song in the PS02. Use the chord 'C' 'NON'
I copy Henks post from another thread:
I had the same problem with different bassline on PS-02 compared to the one I made on Armins pattern editor.
I solved this problem by putting the chord on C, but not "Major" but "NON". You can get this by putting second slider -after a movement to start it working- at top possition. Then there are no transformations and the bassline is played as made in Armin's tool.
Look in the English manual at page 24.
Succes

Thanks Armin … your explanation that all base patterns are stored in key of C and transformed depending on chord selection fits with what I found worked … I just didn’t realize that’s how it was supposed to work … I also agree with your preferred method … I can handle that. Even though I used the manual extensively when I first got my PS-02 I didn’t think of going back to it … thanks for that tip also. |
