| Looks like Zoom has put their COPY & PASTE, ERASE, EXCHANGE AND BOUNCE function efforts into a different product.

The unit looks pretty good but I don't think it has the rhythm functions of the PS-02 but does include some nice COMPRESSOR OR LIMITER, CABINET SIMULATOR, MIC-PREAMP effects.
Too bad all the best of both isn't included in one box. |

anyone know the dimensions of that thing? It looks full sized, about a foot wide. I don't think it would quite fit in my coat pocket like the PS02. |

| | PS02 v other small multi tracks | February 7 2002, 1:58 PM |
I was about to purchase a PS02 just before Christmas and my local shop told me to wait because of the NAMM show (he didn't have a PS02 in stock I should add). I saw this new Zoom on the Harmony Central NAMM site a couple of weeks ago - looks to me exactly the same the Korg PX unit. The stated price is much higher than the current PS02 prices.
This new unit and the new Tascam unit are, in my opinion, small digital 4 tracks designed for linking to Midi modules/PC etc. I have a POD and a KORG digital 8 (D8) track and wanted something that I could sit in the arm chair, in the garden or anywhere else with. Something that I could jam with and when the fancy took record an idea. I don't believe that any of these other units are that versatile - although they are obviously more functional as multi track studios. I currently use a Pandora PX2 for this purpose, but the drums are awful (as they are on the D8) and you can't record anything.
I bought a PS02 a couple of days ago and have been extremely impressed. Sound quality of both Rhythm and Effects has far exceeded my expectations. If you are looking for a serious multi-track unit, then in my opinion you should be looking for an 8, 10 or 16 track unit anyway. Saying that, having played with the PS02 for a few days, I feel that you could actually produce (almost) CD quality songs without the need for any other equipment. As said in previous posts, it’s really a scratch pad tool that you can actually use to produce the final article.

I didn’t mean one or the other. It’s just that it looks like it could make a good companion, especially for those who don’t want to use computer software to edit and mix down.
I sure wish some of those features had made it into the PS-02 or into utilities. |
