Pitch Change effect...sounds too phony January 31 2002 at 3:44 PM
Can anyone give me some advice on how to get this thing to sound a little better when dropping pitch. I play a lot of songs that sound better with the strings tuned down a 1/2 step (Nirvana, soundgarden, etc..) but only one electric and one acoustic guitar so it's really annoying tuning up and down all the time, and of course takes a while before it stays in tune.
I've used the Pitch Changer on the PS-O2, but it doesn't sound the greatest. Does anyone know a good setting to improve this? Or even better, is there a stomp box out there that is dedicated to this and sounds good?
I suggest using software like Sound Forge to change the pitch, it does a much better job if you want a realistic sound. On the other hand, the Zoom's pitch change is very cool in it's own right if you want that weird fakey pitch shift sound. It's fun on vocals too.

A solution that has nothing to do with the PS-02

If your main problem is that it is a pain in the arse to tune up and down just tune down half a step and when you want to play in normal tuning put a capo on the first fret. They are like 2-5 bucks. I'd steer clear of using effects or slowing down recorded tracks... I just think it sounds wrong IMHO.

You also said that it takes a while to stay in tune when you change the tuning...this shouldn't happen. Make sure you change your strings properly -
1)lubricate the nut with graphite or similar
2)Pull all of the slack out of the string post as you are winding
3)Stretch your strings regularly
There are plenty of sites explaining this further.
