Smart Media Readers
December 20 2001 at 5:08 PM

I've had the PS-02 for a few months. My PC has been dead during this time. I will be getting a Mac G3 soon and I would like to expand on the features of the PS-02 with the Mac. Is there someone who can explain the best or most popular way to do this and what supplies I will need. Its been a while since I've heard about Smart Media Readers. Is anyone still using Smart Media Readers w/ Card Manager software. If yes, what are some of the best$$/speed/brand that had been found on the readers? Thank you for your help!!

I'm cheap, so I just use my digital camera as a card reader since it uses the same smart cards as the Zoom and attached to the PC with a USB connector. Stand alone card readers can be had for about $20

Hi,
I use a SanDisk reader. It plugs into your USB port, and the card itself mounts as a disk on your desktop. You can find some decent package deals (reader and 64 mb card), but I'm not familliar with US pricing.

As far as the software is concerned, looks like Card Manager for Mac has a better interface then Windows. Operation is flawless, although there are some neat Japanisms in the manual.

Too bad there aren't any patch editors/hacks available for Mac.

Take care,
Henk

I got a Datafab (KESM-USB) SmartMedia reader/writer that plugs into USB port. It takes about 2 minutes to completely download a 64MB card as opposed to about 25 minutes using a FlashPath SmartDisk that plugged into the 3.5” diskette drive.
