I tried your program and its great. Any plans to allow editing of the toms? While I've got your attention Armin I've noticed on your site you have deciphered a way to have the original, hip hop and rock card sets on one card and load from the utility menu. Does this method take up much of your recording time?
Thanks again!!

comdlg32.ocx ?
December 18 2001, 5:45 PM
Hi guys!
I´d love to program my own patterns too BUT
I got a failure message called:
Component "comdlg32.ocx" or or of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.
Is it the VBRun-stuff?
I installed vbrun6, but it does not work yet.

Missing stuff

Search the web for a file called comlg.zip and you will find the two files you need. Un-zip them into your win-system directory and you should be fine.
comdlg32.ocx
comdlg32.dll

I am having the same trouble and tried your suggested zip, I still get the same message. Mine say's my Comdigermasterwhatever.ocx is out of date.
When asked in the zip program if I wanted to replace the file, I noticed that the file replacing was older than the file being replaced......1997? Is this for real? Not a lot of hits in my search engine.
Any suggested sites for up to date zips?

WinNT?
December 19 2001, 5:08 AM
Great job!
Will it be too much to ask to have the application running under WinNT.
I launched the application and had this message:
"PSO2PatternEditor.exe is not a valid Windows NT application"
If you dont have the files at all. Copy them into your windows/system32 and register them.
Use the tool 'regsvr32' in a dos box to register the dll and ocx.
The tool runs under W95, W98, WinNt4, W2k and WXP.
Maybe the download was not working ? Try again.
Dempsey:
Yes I would like to know, what type of DSP is in the Zoom. (I dont believe its a Zoom one). If its a standard DSP we can hack the OS with an disassembler.
Im still dreaming of an audio loop.
SongEditor? - Maybe later.
Toms? - Why only toms
have a nice time
Now I like to make music with some guys - not only hacking

It was definitely a download problem (5 times to get it right). It now working fine. I'll send some music stuff to look at (or listen to).
Thanks again
PS:
Will it be possible to do the same application for the bass patterns?
Kai
Worked!

Hi Guys!
Alright, it works now!
And to Armin (your Name suggests a German Origin):

OK, got it working now. These are totally cool!! What an expansion on the whole PS02 concept. I think I would rather create my own patterns rather than search throught the entire list from Zoom.
Thanks again Armin! !

Check the latest version 0.4 (last version this year)
New:
-Change the Midi playback speed
(choose or enter)
-Scroll the screen (for small screens)
-Select the number of measurements
1=default (like in the last version)
2=two different measures (2 is the PS02 max)
-AND edit the basspattern !
Merry Christmas
I have to build some pattern
error
December 23 2001, 10:01 AM
hi armin, when I try to start the new version o.4 I get this message: Build field: Unable to create or activate a new instance of PS o2 Pattern editor.ctlfield.
Then when I create a pattern I get this error, before it closes itself:
Run time error 730
control ctlfield 190 not found

I can not use W2000 because my soundcard does not support them...It would be good if you could just add to version 0.3 midi playback speed control...

Re: Like to create new PS02 patterns ?
December 25 2001, 5:54 AM
Windows 95 & 98 cant handle this much controls.
So the version (0.4) runs only under Windows2000 or Windows XP.
I have build a new version (0.6) and I dont use controls anymore (have to paint everything by myself) so this version will run under Win95... again.
And is 100 times faster. Stable midi timing...
The next days Julia and me wont be at home - no computers, no ps02
happy new year
Armin
Armin, you are amazing!
December 25 2001, 8:38 AM
Armin, this is a dream come true. You are so cool man. I can't believe you did this. For those who haven't downloaded this yet, do it. Armin just doubled or tripled the value of our PS-02s. Anything is possible now. Anything.
Truly amazing.

Swaping Drum Patterns
December 26 2001, 11:48 PM
Anybody got any ideas on swaping cool drum patterns that people discover now that you can create your own measures? It could be as simple as submitting them in "tablature" form. Let me know if you have any ideas..

problem with latest release
December 27 2001, 10:16 AM
I realize you're on vacation now, but when you get back to the important business of upgrading this amazing software, here's my wish list, plus one bug.
Bug:
Sometimes it says it's saving the new pattern to songs.pts, but when I load it onto my smart card and into the zoom, the new patterns aren't there. Random problem. No error messages pop up.
Wish List:
I'd like to load the pre-existing pattern from songs.pts into your program and modify it, then store it back into songs.pts.
I'd like to save each pattern to computer as a midi file as a backup.
That's all for now. Great program, thanks for doing this. Very happy holidays.
Sounds.syn editor
December 28 2001, 10:04 AM
Hi Armin,
and how about adding side-stick and tambourine to midi-files , these sounds are in the original sounds.syn and I think they could be useful...
Also would it be difficult to make a tool for making our own Sounds.syn? It would be nice if you could just load for example 10 wave files and make your own drum set. What I really miss are percussion sounds...

Hi,
Dopey, Jiri I like to put it all into version 1.0
Coming this year
See a preview on my page.
Jiri, I dont know anything about the sounds.syn structure yet(!) - there are so many secrets in the song.pts.

Re: Like to create new PS02 patterns ?

Armin, please keep on working....I am looking forward to working with such great tool. ZOOm should catch you and give you Big amount of money (because you are their best employee, even if external)

Re: Like to create new PS02 patterns ?
January 11 2002, 2:37 PM
Hi again, sorry to answer this late (but I have to do my regular work again)
Jiri:
Zoom shows no interest in this kind of tools.
Keith:
Hope to finish Version 1.0 this month.
Dopey:
Thanks for the info !
Yes there are a lot of bug - its a beta
Please report any other bugs you found.
1.0 will be able to test, import and modify existing pattern. Store your edited pattern to any song.pts file - and import it later to make modifications.
Dempsey:
After 1.0 is fineshed we can start to swap drum patterns - test them and import the ones we like.
You know what would be the coolest feature?
January 11 2002, 4:25 PM
I don't know if you could pull this one off, but if the ps02 could record in MP3 format that would be incredibly crazy. Just think how much extra time everyones smart media card would run. What do you think? Is this even a possibility?
Zoom's support
January 11 2002, 5:41 PM
Armin,
we both know why, they want to sell Rt 323, but I do not understand why they do not answer to mails of customers...
They have really good engeneers to create Ps-02, but their management and support is the opposite...and these are two things to consider and I could say it in more rude words...
John

How much will 1.0 cost 20$, 50$, 100$ ???

Re: Like to create new PS02 patterns ?
January 16 2002, 1:23 PM
Ken, John:
Maybe its possible - hope that Zoom will provide an PS02-Update 2.0. For us its not possible until we know what OS is in the PS02.
Jiri:
Can the RT323 build bass pattern?
At least the RT323 Pattern provided by Zomm have no bass.
Pit:
1000$ - What do you thing is a good price ?
By the way there is a test version of the PatternEditor1.0 on my homepage.
Re: Like to create new PS02 patterns ?
January 17 2002, 1:35 PM
Armin,
I am not sure if you can create also bass patterns on the Rt 323( I do not have it physicaly at home, my friend got it but he uses just for drums sounds) but If it was impossible, then I would say that it is almost useless machine...
You can try to download RT pdf manual...
However, making new patterns on RT 323 is not as ease as with your Tool...

Test Version
January 18 2002, 5:16 AM
Armin,
Excelent! Well done Armin
I just bought a ps-02 yesterday (see other post) and had been playing around with the current pattern editor. I thought it would be nice if you could play them from your program and hey! that's what you have added in the test version 1.
Keep up the excellent work.
