My theory on "CRDERROR" November 17 2001 at 10:33 PM | record

| Once i formatted my 64mg card i used it exclusively and left it in the SM card slot of the PS-02. I always power up with it in. Then one day i decided to use my 16mg card. I switched cards BEFORE powering up. That's when i got the error and the card went bad. I was able to reformat that card and since then i notice something peculiar in the system operation: It seems that when you power off the PS-02 remembers what card you had in. If you power on with the same card the files automatically load. If you pull the card first, power on, and then insert the card the files load automatically. But if you switch cards while the PS-02 is on it ASKS if you want to load. So, my theory is that the error comes when you try powering up with a card other than the one you powered off with. I'm not willing to test it again, though. |

This seems to make sense as the pso2 must store certain files to be able to force format a new card.
Also if you leave the unit on and remove the card to add new files / effects or whatever from the pc sometimes the ps02 comes up with crderror but its just a case of re-inserting it until it recognises the card.(poor contacts/dust etc) |

Hi!
I got my first Card Error when I left the card in the slot all the time and the power adaptor connected.
My guitar dealer told me never to keep the card in the slot when not in use, because the ps02 can delete the card if there´s a power fluctuation.
I always keep my smar media card in a sleeve now when the ps-02 is off.
You all will know, you may never turn it off the the "read" icon is shown on the display. So nobody´d turn it off while it´s recording or playing. But it seems to delay reading and then starting again for a second after you pressed the STOP button.
That´s when I got my second card failure.
Luckily I have a card reader now...

I wonder if the media is any more/less safe in the device than it is in the sleeve. Those sleeves look like regular plastic to me. Wouldn't they be subject to static?
I don't recall reading anything about removing the smartmedia when powering off in the manuals for my PS-02 or my digital camera. I wonder if thats a myth...

I always have kept my SmartMedia card in the PS-02 but also after powering off unit I unplug it and the power adapter. I have a thing about leaving power adapters plugged in, as most of them seem to get rather warm although the PS-02’s is the coolest adapter I’ve ever used. I’ve had the "CRDERROR" but only after removing the card. When I get it I just power off unit. Remove and re-insert card and try again. Sometimes it takes several tries but it’s never caused a card problem. Anyone else have any stories? |

I powered off by accident once while in the process of a bounce. I only lost the data that was not saved. |
