My Unit Won't Start!

Today when I opened it on the batterie alone, it just refused to start. Instead it gives me an annoying clicking sound and flashed the main display.

What's up with that?

Now, I don't want to complain too much, but since I got this unit, I'm shocked to see how unreliable it is. Storing the OS and system files on the smart media was a dumb idea.

When it DOES work, it rocks (!), but when it fails it sucks!

I think the OS on smartmedia is a pretty darn good idea. I just verified that you can format a smartmedia module on the PC and copy the system files to it with the PC and the PS02 will still boot (the website seems to disagree.)

At least you don't have to send it off for firmware updates or if the internal flash is corrupted.

Have you tried to redo the card?

I assume you have it working OK with the wall power adapter. There are no moving parts so I assume the clicking sound is from your speakers. Sort of like when power is interupted on a powered up amplifier. And that flashing display, I assume the backlite?

Sounds like your battery springs are loose.
Wall power works, batterys don't? Problem found?
If the PS-02 works at any time than it must be loose battery connections.

There is also the external power jack, which may dis-connects the battery power when the wall power plug is inserted. It may have been damaged.

As it turned out, the batteries were down. Funny, don't they have a "low battery" indicator in there?
