Signal Strength too high when using preamp pickup November 12 2001 at 2:54 PM
Can anyone help? I have a Martin D-15 with a Thinline Gold Plus pickup. The pickup has a preamp powered by a 9-volt battery. When I plug the thing in with the battery, it is way too loud on hi and lo gain. Sans battery (which is also sans preamp)it is not loud enough on hi or lo gain. Also, I cannot get a very crisp sound from my built-in mic either. More worried about the input though. Thanks.
what effects patch are you using?
are you sure its not a mic patch?
unless your pickups are very high output lo setting should be fine, as it is with my yamaha apx.
you can turn down the output level of the patch with the effect edit menu if its still too loud. the patch numbers 25 or 26 should sound cool.
the mic takes some fiddling with to get rid of the hiss, but dropping the high in the eq and not going overboard on reverb and effects can sound excellent.

I guess I haven't read enough about it -- wait a second, is that the ZNR thing. If I read my manual, would that help? Any recommended settings for the built in mic or my guitar? Thanks.

the trick with the effects is to find one thats close to what you want and then tone it down a bit in the effects edit menu - the pre programmed sound can be a little extreme for real world use, i suppose they are there to show off the unit.
once you get used to effect editing you will know what modules you want and can make up your own effects from scratch.
there have been other postings on here about a kind of user effects database but no one seems to have sent any settings in yet. maybe ill get time tonight to send a mic one.
