Do I need a POD or V-Amp too? October 22 2001 at 10:53 AM
I don't meet to follow the BOSS thread or be off-topic. I currently have a PS-02 and I really like it. I'm tempted to buy a POD or more likely a Behringer V-AMP too for the amp models. I'm curious whether any of you have both the PS-02 and the POD or V-AMP. If so, do you find that the PS-02 amp models are as good and versatile? Should I just be happy with my PS-02 and tweak it more or am I justified in wanting both? I tend to practice so much with headphones at home (not to disturb other family members) that when I do finally get to play with my amp, I'm not sure how to get the tones I want from my live rig. Any suggestions?
Hey, I have a pod and PS-02 and it is a very good combo. The ps02 does have nice distortion, but it still sounds flat compared to my Pod! The whole point of the Pod is distortion (it is seriously lacking in effects), but you can bring out a "wall of sound" that is thick and lush. You can also tone it down, it has so many different cabinet emulations and distortion types
Where the POD lacks is where the ps02 picks up. It has a variety of effects, that can compliment the POD.
Anyways, I don't know anything about the v-amp, but I can tell you that if you can afford a pod, it would be a good idea. It will only give you more versitility, and the distortion tones really rock!

Hi!
If you can get hold of a pod2, get it!
I love my little bean, the sounds are really much better than the built in ones in the ps02.
Of cause they are, the ps02 is a recorder and the pod2 is an amp modeler. IŽll put on some mp3s the next days so you can hear what I mean.

As another PS-02/Pod owner, I definitely concur with the opinions above. The Pod is FAR superior in terms of providing a "real" sounding guitar tone. If I compare a track recorded with the PS-02 alone to one recorded with the Pod and compare them on my stereo system, the difference is like night and day. Through mini headphones, the different isn't nearly so apparent. That's not to say that the sounds on the PS-02 aren't good, because they are amazingly good for such a little box that sports so many other features.

I may have to get a POD and try it. Once I have my settings tweaked on the PS-02 they sound as good as anything else I've come across or better (including the new digitech GNX stuff.) A friend of mine had a Bass POD and he hated it, so he got a J-station and loves it. I tried the Jstation for guitar and hated it.

Well, I got the Pod. My wife gave it to me for an anniversary present. Is that cool or what? I like using the PS02 for recording and messing around with song ideas, but I like the way the Pod responds more like a real amp to my playing (is that all in my head?) and I especially like having all the knobs on the front of the Pod just like a real amp! I created a nothing patch on the PS-02 and I plug the Pod into the input on the PS-02 to record. Works great.
