| I have a couple question before I buy the zoom ps-02 if someone could answer them I would be soo greatful. Can I record a stereo mix in long play mode? Is the quality drastically different than the hi fi mode? Also I was reading the manual and i didn't see a place were it said you could bounce a stereo mix onto a single track, so is it possible to bounce to a single stereo track?
And What I want to know is then will it only take up 3 minutes (when bounced) even if it is in stereo? Ok, and what about this... say I record 3 tracks and bounce it all down to one stereo track, now say I record 2 more tacks and bounce them to that 1 stereo track, Now how many times can I do this and is the total times used on the bounced tracks only as long as the longest track recorded? Also how long do I get on a 32mb, 64mb, and 128mb card? Also does the backing drums take up time too? |

Right, let's try a tackle this one at a time.
1) Yes you can record a stereo mix in LP but there will be a quality reduction. Ultimately it's down to your ears but I reckon in general you would use LP when trying stuff out and record in full quality when trying to lay down some tracks.
2) Stereo is achieved by recording to tracks 2 and 3. So bouncing them together on track 1 will produce a mono track. You could bounce a mono track to one side of the stereo mix but I guess you have to be careful about the sound you're creating then.
3) You can bounce all day long. What you need to remember is to remove the now redundant recorded track after bouncing, otherwise it will take up precious time on your card or screw up your next recording. Also remove any multiple takes. I usually save the tracks individually on the computer before bouncing and punching in, so I can always go backwards or if it develops further than I envisaged I can use a software multi-track.
4) 17mins on a 32Mb, 33mins on a 64Mb, and 128Mb cards are unsupported, although someone has tried it and could only get it to be stable up to about 33mins. So I wouldn't bother with 128mb cards.
5) Backing drums and bass are midi-like signal and do not take up time on the card. |
