just a quick question for everyone: say I record guitar on tracks 1, 2, and 3 and then pan each track differently (1 to 8R, 2 to 5R, 3 to 5L). If I mix these tracks down to 2+3 do these tracks retain the stereo imaging Ive given them? Should I now set the panning for tracks 2+3 back to the center or should I leave them at 5R and 5L?
I dont really now if Ive explained myself clearly, but does anyone know what im trying to get at?
Put it back to the center as this will give the most accurate impression of what you recorded on the 3 tracks. BUT really you are trying to achieve the best sound possible so it's no good putting them in the center if they sound wrong so play around with the panning till you get the sound you want (P.S don't forget to delete or mute the original audio from track one as this will affect the sound you hear.)

I haven't done it myself, but the manual says that if you mix three tracks down to stereo it will retain the original panning characteristics. So, yes, I think you're right.

from what i've seen so far, when bouncing from three tracks to two tracks, you are actually creating actual stereo tracks, one is right, one is left. Therefore to hear the pan settings you had before bouncing, you need to set one track full left and one track full right (10L, 10R)
